According to Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapeutic Schedule for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (2nd Trial Edition) released on 2nd, Feb., doctors are recommended to apply ginseng antiphlogistic powder (GAP) into therapy if the patients show wind-cold on appearance, lack of Qi and stagnation of dampness-evil.

What is GAP? Why it is recommended by expert of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)? The story begins with the origin of this medicine.

Unpredictable Plague and Cruel Disease

Plague is a major cause of large-scale population decrease in ancient time, apart from war and famine. People even turned pale at the mention of it. Considering the underdeveloped healthcare environment and medical technology, it was difficult to limit the transmission to other regions, which caused a radical infection and countless deaths.

Does that mean that people can do nothing in an era with no vaccine and Antimicrobials? The answer is no. With the help of TCM, China survived from every outbreak of plague in history.

Saving People from the Hard Time

Due to the frequent population shift in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), plague outbroke in many places. One fifth of its history has records of plague. Facing highly-contagious disease, doctors obligatorily shouldered the responsibility, and started their research on the disease.

GAP has been a successful prescript against plague since its invention in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As stated by the record of GAP in Yuyicao (1643), people found that the boiled medicine was more effective by reducing the dosages of radix angelicae tuhuo and peucedanum root. Therefore, GAP was recommended as ‘the first choice against plague’.

The summer of 1559 witnessed an outbreak of plague in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui. People had no faith in their life. Fortunately, GAP was employed in treatment. The medicine cured every single patient in that plague.

Coincidently, there is another plague from 1589 to 1590. Countless victims were infected in epidemic-stricken area. Facing the merciless disease, GAP has proved its effectiveness by curing all patient, again. Taking credit for its fast-acting effect, experts applauded: ‘this prescript can control the evil by support the divine, facilitate the inner transmission, force evil out of the skin, and therefore defeat the virus.’

Time-honored Prescript in Modern Age

Guangxi Li, director of respiration department of Guang’anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, has wondered why no one was willing to manufacture this medicine in China. The situation was documented in his note, Abating fever caused by NCV with a half dose of medicine. Hopefully, there is always a surprise in life. A domestic company is manufacturing the medicine.

Zhengyuandan (ginseng antiphlogistic capsule) produce by Joincare follows the classic prescript, and was proved to have a salient effect on wind-cold. This medicine is defined as OTC, listed in National Protected Items of traditional Chinese Medicine. Moreover, it gained the Certification of TCM Registration, by which the medicine is allowed to sale in Hong Kong. Elder people and children suffering wind-cold benefit most from this medicine, for its advantages over other medicines in curing cold, unhealthy respiration, cough and fever.

GAP was first noted in Prescriptions of People's Welfare Pharmacy, 2nd volume: ‘Ginseng antiphlogistic powder showed a positive feedback in the treatment of cold, headache, neckache, fever, cough, stuffy nose and vomit.

Prescriptions of People's Welfare Pharmacy, the first official medical standard in the world was compiled in the Song dynasty.

Proposed by Application of GAP, the medicine can treat all kinds of influenzas. Ginseng prevents patients from organ failure. Elder people suffering chronic disease are highly recommended to use this medicine in the treatment.

Zhengyuandan follows the prescript and manufacturing method in Prescriptions of People's Welfare Pharmacy, and extracts curable component from the classic prescript. After setting the national standard of this prescript, the company begun its research on toxicology, medical effect and clinical study to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medicine. All of these not only ensure the effect of classic prescript, but also improve its portability.

As shown in clinical research, the effects of medicine are confirmed and positive. In the 867 case of Phrase Ⅱ and Phrase Ⅲ, the total effective rate are all above 90%. Zhengyuandan can efficiently relieve the wind-cold syndromes of cold, unhealthy respiration and cough. The three major strengths are more efficiency, less recovery time and less side effect.
